The Kingsland Police Department accepts applications from qualified individuals on a continuous basis. These applications are held for a period of two years unless deactivated by the applicant.
As positions become available applicants are selected based on training, experience, education and backgound for the hiring process.
The process is highly competitive due to the number of high caliber applicants who desire a position with one of the fastest growing, most progressive departments in South Georgia.
If you are certified as a peace officer in another state, not certified or have no other law enforcement training the Kingsland Police Department would still like to hear from you. For the right candidate, the Department will sponsor the applicant for the Georgia Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy for certification as a peace officer. During this time, the applicant will receive lodging and meals as well as a base salary.

Minimum Standards
In order to be considered for a position as a Police Officer you must:
(a) Be at least 18 years of age.
(b) Be a U.S. citizen.
(c) Have a High School Diploma or GED.
(d) Have a valid drivers license, you must have a Georgia license upon date of hire.
(e) Pass Physical Agility Test.
(f) Pass a medical examination and drug screening.
(g) Pass a CVSA Voice Stress Examination.
(h) Pass a Interview Board.
(i) Pass a extensive Background Investigation.
(j) Pass a Psychological Examination.
(k) Pass a Academy Entrance Examination
(l) Not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime the punishment for
which would have been imprisonment in the federal or state prison or institution nor have been
convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law, provided that,
for purposes of this paragraph, violations of traffic laws and other offenses involving the operation
of motor vehicles when the applicant has received a pardon shall not be considered. Not have
been convicted of any form of Domestic Violence the status of which prevents the possession of
firearms by the applicant.

ATTENTION CERTIFIED OFFICERS
You are ineligible for employment if:
(1) Your law enforcement certification has been suspended or revoked or is currently
under investigation.
PART TIME ACADEMY STATUS
You will be ineligible for the part time academy if:
(1) You have limited law enforcement experience, which may include, but is not limited to:
reserve police officers, part-time police officers, corrections officers, military police
officers, federal officers and auxiliary officers.

Paid salary while in the Academy with a increase upon completion. Yearly merit pay increases dependent on job performance and evaluation.

Probationary Period
All new employee's with the Police Department are hired with a one year probationary status.
Service Agreement
All new employee's with the Police Department who are hired as non-certified officers must sign a two year service agreement (failure to complete this agreement will result in the City recovering the cost of academy training as per Georgia State Code).
