[ARCHIVED] Seeking Community Volunteers To Serve On DCA Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC)

Citizen Advisory Committee 11062020

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $26,961,000 in Community Development Block Grant Mitigation funds (CDBG-MIT) to the State of Georgia. Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) created a CDBG-MIT Program with this allocation for activities that mitigate against future disasters in the areas impacted by Hurricane Irma as well as the 2017 January tornadoes in Southwest, Georgia. Eligible counties for CDBG-MIT funding include Berrien, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Coffee, Cook, Crisp, Dougherty, Glynn, Liberty, McIntosh, Thomas, Tuner, Wilcox and Worth.

After the approval of DCA’s Mitigation Action Plan, a Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) must be established for increased transparency in the implementation of CDBG–MIT funds. The purpose of this committee is to provide on-going public input into mitigation activities, to continuously inform the mitigation program, to assist with program refinement as well as soliciting and responding to public comments on mitigation activities. The CAC will consist of members selected from HUD-identified Most Impacted and Distressed (MID) areas (Camden, Dougherty, and Glynn Counties) and as well as interested delegates from other government entities committed to the advancement of Georgia. The meetings will commence twice annually, either virtually or by phone in calendar year 2021. Members will not receive a per diem for serving on the committee.

DCA is looking for citizens from the three counties mentioned above to serve on the CAC. City and/or County Managers shall not be excluded from serving on the CAC. Interested citizens should complete the CAC Interest Form online no later than Friday, December 18, 2020. Participants will be notified by DCA through email of the CAC meeting schedule.

If you have any further questions regarding the CAC, please email Monique Guilford, CDBG-DR Infrastructure Specialist at
