City of Kingsland Social Media Policy

The City of Kingsland maintains official social media accounts for the purpose of communicating accurate, timely, and relevant information to the public regarding City programs, services, projects, events, and initiatives. These platforms are intended to foster transparent and constructive communication between the City and its citizens.

By accessing or using any City of Kingsland social media page, users agree to abide by the terms of use outlined in this policy. The City reserves the right to update or modify this policy at any time without prior notice. Updates become effective immediately upon posting.

Please note that these platforms are not continuously monitored. However, City staff reviews comments regularly. Comments that comply with the City's guidelines will remain visible, and users will not be blocked or reported solely based on viewpoint. All content posted to the City’s social media pages may be subject to the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq.) and may be retained as a public record.

Commenting Guidelines

The City of Kingsland's social media pages are limited public forums. Content must be relevant to the subject matter posted by the City. The following user guidelines are intended to encourage respectful and appropriate discourse:

  1. City Responses: Staff may respond to comments to provide factual information or general acknowledgments. City representatives will not engage in argumentative or personal exchanges.

  2. Relevance and Brevity: Comments should be concise, relevant to the original post, and appropriate for all audiences.

  3. Protect Personal Information: Do not post sensitive personal information, including but not limited to addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, or financial information.

  4. Impersonation Prohibited: Do not misrepresent your identity or affiliation with another person or entity.

  5. Content Restrictions: The City reserves the right to remove comments or content that includes or promotes any of the following:

    • Content not related to City services, programs, events, or initiatives;

    • Commercial advertising or promotion of businesses, products, or services;

    • Endorsements or opposition to political candidates or ballot measures;

    • Discriminatory language based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected classification;

    • Profanity, obscenity, threats, personal attacks, or harassment;

    • Sexual content or links to sexually explicit material;

    • Advocacy or depiction of violence, criminal activity, or drug use;

    • Content intended for dating, solicitation, or spam;

    • Information that may compromise public safety or security;

    • Content that violates intellectual property rights (e.g., copyright or trademark infringement);

    • Links to external websites that are not official City pages or governmental resources.

  6. Repeat Violations: Users who repeatedly violate these guidelines may be temporarily or permanently blocked from the City’s social media platforms, consistent with applicable laws and constitutional protections.
